Solid versatility  
I received this ladder as a housewarming gift from my father. I have a spotlight on the exterior of my house about 24ft off the patio as well as several interior floodlights and ceiling fans that have bulbs needing changed. This ladder will allow me to hit both the extremely high outside light using the extension ladder and the interior lights with the extra tall step ladder.

While it was a little nerve-wracking being up that high keeping my eyes focused on the fixture kept me comfortable and safe while changing the bulb. The ladder is extremely easy to use and very strudy. Even with the spring-loaded locking mechanisms I felt very safe when climbing around.

The unit is fairly heavy but that is to be expected with such a large ladder. Even though you should never use this ladder alone it is still manageable if you are alone. : 2010-09-15 04:50:42

Pretty good; Not perfect. Get it if its on sale.  
I looked around for this size and type of a ladder for at least a month and the best deal I found was on Amazon so I bought it. It arrived according to the advertised shipping schedule and was packaged only in plastic shrink wrap with a card board placard but it had no damage. (FYI: If youre not home FedEx will just leave it on your door step.)

First impression: This thing is bigger and much heavier than I imagined - that makes it a little cumbersome to use. I had to buy this ladder to paint a room with 14 ceilings and a stairwell with a 19 ceiling. I was hoping to replace my old 6 foot aluminum ladder but on seeing how big and heavy it is I dont think I am willing to use it for "everyday" use.

It is fairly straight forward to operate but there are some nuances. For example you must be very careful in heightening/shorting the ladder. When you pull out the locking pins there is no safety mechanism to prevent the ladder extension from slipping down immedia : 2010-09-15 04:50:42

Easy and Safe to Move Around and Resize  
It was time to retire the rickety wooden paint ladder I inherited from Dad so I waited for a sale on the Werner. My first use was outdoors pruning the top of a two-story pine tree away from my house power lines. Very easy to stabilize on dirt.

To try the straight configuration I laid the Werner on its side before swinging one ladder side over to make the straight then lifted the entire thing.

It can be configured as well in a multi-level form for working above staircases or on sloped ground - a little adventurous for my abilities but good to know.

The Werner is the only "ladder system" Ive owned so I cant compare the lock design with others. I actually find it reassuring that it takes a good solid knock or two to punch in the side locks that free the main ladder sides. If they had more play in them Id worry they might slip while I was on the ladder.
